In BJJ all the techniques you learn are based on body forms. To escape a mount you shrimp, many guard techniques uses the spin etc… If you learn techniques without being able to move your body correctly then you could never applied it at 100% and your opponent will take the advantage on you.

Here for me the 5 basic body forms that you should be able to do. Of course there are many other body forms as there are thousands of different techniques. I just want to see in this article the basic one :

  • Shrimp
  • Bridge
  • Standups
  • Spin
  • Roll

If you do need to remember only one of these forms then it is shrimp! It is a form you use the most in your training and your fighting.
